When was the last time you took a walk or went for a jog, sat down to read a good book, or just meditated? You might feel a little guilty for taking time for yourself, but you deserve it. You should never deny yourself of some self-reflection.
By focusing on your internal needs you can revitalize your external obligations. The more you think positively, the more uplifted and happy you will feel. If you focus on your best self, you will be motivated to take the actions needed to get where you need to be.
Think about a time when you were most content and felt your best. Try to recall details, such as, who you were with; what you were wearing; what time of day it was; what location you were in; etc. Try to remember how you felt in body and mind? When you have a moment of self-reflection, think about this particular time you chose, and visualize yourself in that place again. Picture yourself smiling and very comfortable with yourself.
Think of affirmations to reinforce your positive feelings. Come up with a few statements about yourself starting with “I am”. You could use simple statements such as, “I am smart”; “I am courageous”; “I am strong”; “I am unique”; “I am healthy”; “I am sexy”; “I am great”. You must repeat these statements to yourself as part of your daily rituals. You may feel silly at first, but you will really find this refreshing and liberating.
Laugh aloud or smile more often. Smiling or laughter is one of the best medicines for better health. Be humorous with yourself or your loved ones. Laughter is infectious and brings people together. It increases happiness and intimacy. The biggest benefit of laughter is the physical changes, which take place in your body. Humor strengthens your immune system, boost your energy, releases stress and tension, and most of all, it is free medicine.
Nothing works faster than laughter to bring your body into balance. It is the antidote to stress, pain, and conflict. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hopes, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert. I cannot emphasize enough to you how laughter is such a powerful resource for surmounting problems, enhancing relationships, and most of all, it supports both your physical and mental health.
Make this time for your mental and physical health. If you want to kick it up a notch, you could go for jog or a brisk walk with your dog or carry weights to optimize the routine.
Exercising 30-60 minutes, every other day gives you the chance to clear your head, vent out frustrations, maintain your ideal weight, and strengthen your body all at the same time.
Everyone’s body is unique; therefore, you need to find out what your own body’s guideposts are. By learning and listening to your hunger and satiety gauges, you will also be getting good practice in becoming responsive to your general needs. Your feelings are your coping tools and indicators on what you need in life.
